Healing Trauma The Equine Way

Horses can teach us so much about being fully present in the moment. This is an important aspect of helping someone recover from trauma. Our ability to be present, regulate and manage our internal response.  This workshop will include experiences in the outdoors with horses and some theory input.

The workshop will take place in a rural setting. Participants will need to wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the day.

Aims

To provide participants with an understanding of the stabilisation stage of working with psychological trauma. How early trauma effects development of the brain and the most appropriate interventions to support recovery. There will be an emphasis upon the importance of self-awareness and establishing safety for clients. This will be facilitated through the experience of equine assisted learning. Participants will be encouraged to adopt a mindful approach to the work.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain experiential understanding of equine assisted learning and psychotherapy and how this can support trauma recovery
  • Enhance self awareness and the importance of being regulated when working with traumatised clients
  • Learn about the stabilisation stage of therapy and building safety for the client media

We encourage, where possible, sharing transport to attend the workshop, it is important part of the minimising our carbon footprint. There are public transport options details will be provided. We will ask permission for participants to be part of a. WhatsApp group for the sharing of information and shared transport options.

ChangeWays Through Horses Community Interest Company is a non- profit based in Cumbria and SW Scotland. We offer the Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association model. It is a team approach with a qualified mental health professional, an equine specialist and several horses, all our human team member are certified in this approach. Refunds

Due to the limited places on this event unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds unless we need to cancel the event.

What do I need to bring?

Please wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions we will be working outside,  study footwear such as walking boots, wellies or covered shoes.

Bring a pack lunch or alternatively there will be time to have lunch out at local cafes within a 4 mile radius.

What will be provided?

Refreshments will be provided at the start & during breaks.  Please let us know if you have dietary requirements

We will provide handouts and these will be emailed after the event.

How do I find the venue?

At the level crossing at Low Row go straight on – don’t follow the road round to the right.  Immediately after you pass a row of terrace houses on the left, look out for a green sign for Denton Hall before grit bin, turn up the track look for the farmhouse on the left.

At the start of the workshop there will be time for refreshments and introductions. We are looking forward to meeting you.
